The European Physical Agents (Vibration) Directive 2002/44/EC aims to protect workers from the harmful effects of vibration by placing a duty of care on employers to minimize the risk. With operator's safety its top priority, Hitachi is addressing the problem of HAVS (Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome) through constant innovation in the design and manufacture of tools. Hitachi's new UVP tools including the G 23SCY Disc Grinder series with low vibration technology have been developed to help meet the goals of this directive and market demand for lower vibrating tools.

New vibration-absorbing main handle (switch handle)

  • The housing is coupled to the main handle (switch handle) via a moving joint mechanism that is surrounded by a handle damper. As a result, the vibration level of the switch handle is 30% lower than the current G 23SC3 series. G 23SCY series tools are more user-friendly and greatly reduce operator discomfort caused by vibration.

New gear sound reducing technology

  • In the gear structure of the G 23SCY series, the coupling damper absorbs the impact sound generated by meshing between the gear and the pinion.
Thanks to this new structure, the impact sound of the gear is reduced and harsh gear sound during no-load operation is 60% lower than the current G 23SC3 series (average roughness comparison). This further reduces operator strain.
